The Christian Conscience

Unless you are really, deep down happy, and contented, you desperately need to read this message.  This may come as a surprise to you, but God wants you to be happy!  And, He wants you to have what you need,- and to have a happy and meaningful life.

Living here in the Mexico Beach community, we see a lot of unhappy people.  They may be shouting and hollering, and seeming to be having fun, but if you watch them for a while, you see beneath the surface, that things are not what they seem to be.  You see that they are really unhappy slaves.

How long can the slaves go, without rushing to their coolers, or their back packs, for a quick fix to deaden the pain, and hurt, and unhappiness that they are hiding inside?  Not long!  What happens when they run out of the quick fixes?  Are they still "happy?" It seems that they aren't, because they quickly rush off to the nearest drug dealer, or local store, to get something to keep the pain, hurt, and unhappiness, in check!

God has a better way.  Serve and worship Him.  Stop being slaves to the pain deadening chemicals.  If you add up the real cost of what you are spending on the pain deadening chemicals, the booze, the nicotine, and the illegal drugs, you 'll find that God's tithe is a bargain.  You say, " I'm not a slave! "  Then, let's see you stop being a slave, to your pain deadening chemicals, for six months.

Look around you, and look at the real cost of your habits.  Look at the pain that you are causing to your spouse, your children, your families, and society.  Look at those killed, or maimed by auto accidents.  Look at the pain of broken marriages.  Look at the pain of sexual related diseases.  Look at the pain of broken relationships.  Look at the pain in the eyes of the unwanted children.  These children know that they were, and still are, unwanted.  They are sad, and they are bitter.  We see the signs of their lashing out, in the news, almost daily.

I received an e-mail recently that quoted a Dr. M. Sidney Wallace.  I don't know who he is, but I like what He wrote about choices:

"We all like to be able to choose from various options.  We like to go out to a fine restaurant and choose from many items on the menu.  When we go to a fast food purveyor, we choose from several things on the placard behind the counter.  When we go to the food market we like to choose from among many items on the shelves.  When we decide to buy a new car, we like to have many makes, models, and colors, to choose from.  We like to make choices on everything, from our underwear, to our winter overcoats.  An individual's place in society makes absolutely no difference; all individuals like to have choices. The only difference in choices is the ultimate price tag.  There are two primary factors that make up the price for a choice; one factor is the absolute cost of the choice, and the other is who will be responsible for paying the cost."

What is the absolute cost of the choices that you are making?  And who will be responsible for paying the cost?
