The Christian Conscience

BEGUN IN THE SPIRIT?

“This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?  Are you so foolish? HAVING BEGUN IN THE SPIRIT, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?” (Gal. 3:2-3)  This BEGINNING, in the Spirit, is the BEGINNING of a Christian life.

“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.  God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” (the words of Jesus in John 4:23-24)

“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” (the words of Jesus in John 6:63)

“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” “But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.” (the words of Jesus in John 7:38,39)

The biggest problem in modern Christianity is the lack of teaching about the Holy Spirit, and the lack of understanding of the spiritual nature of true Christianity. The average church attendee knows little if anything about the Holy Spirit, apart for a few words in a statement of faith that he doesn’t understand.

There is the natural (physical, or fleshly) realm.  And, there is the spiritual realm.  When a person is born of a woman (we all have been), he is instantly a part of the natural realm.  When a person is born of God, or born again (or born from above, as it says in the original Greek scripture) he leaves the natural realm, and becomes a part of the spiritual realm.  If the person has not been born of God, death is a horrible shock.  He, instantly becomes a part of the spiritual realm, and it is not that part of the spiritual realm, that he wants to be a part of!  Jesus taught about it in Luke 16:19-31.

Let me make this as clear as I know how.  There is an experience called being born of God.  That is the BEGINNING of the Christian life.  This beginning is related to the surrender of your goals and desires, and your willingness to follow the teachings of Jesus, and the leading of the Holy Spirit.  That puts you on a pathway that leads to life and being “saved.“ (Matthew 7:13,14 and 7:20-25)

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it… Narrow is the gate, and difficult is the way, which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”  (Matthew 7:13,14)

Which path are you on,- the broad way ( the one that seems easy, and allows you to go, and live any way that you want) that leads to destruction ?  Or hopefully, you are on the difficult way that leads to life.
