The Christian conscience
~How do you know?~
Do you know what the true GOSPEL is? Do you care? Recently, I heard a speaker claim that most church goers never compare what is preached by their pastor, or priest, or other religious teacher, with what is stated in their own Bibles.
Is it the GOSPEL OF CHRIST? Or, is it a GOSPEL ABOUT Christ?
A look at the first part of 1st Corinthians Chapter 15, which many say is THE GOSPEL, finds many important things about the Messiah, Jesus Christ, but does not yield a single quote from Jesus Christ, Himself. In fact, in the entire chapter,- all 58 verses, we find nothing concerning what Jesus preached, or what He told His followers to preach!
To the person, who doesn’t really know who Jesus was, or what He did for us, these 58 verses are very important, but they tell us nothing about what Jesus said we should do, or how we should live, or what we should believe - if it is our desire to have a place with Him in eternity, rather than eternal punishment. At best, what is frequently called the GOSPEL is really only a GOSPEL ABOUT CHRIST.
It is in these four gospels, that we find that Jesus preached,” Repent, the kingdom of God is at hand.”
We find out that it is a lot more than a church ceremony.
It is in the gospel of John, in the first chapter, where we find that a person being born again (or as some say, born from above) is actually being born of God, and is not born again based on anything that the person said or did. In John 1:13, it says, “… which were born, NOT OF BLOOD, NOR OF THE WILL OF THE FLESH, NOR OF THE WILL OF MAN, but of God.”
Reading the Bible is not optional - if you want to spend eternity in the right place.
Every time you hear a teaching, or message, check it out in your own Bible, and make sure, that the teaching you heard, is not something that was taken out of context. In our family, we read the Bible every day. That should be a habit in your family also.
