PSJ City Clerk Resigns
The biggest news from the June 2 city commission meeting was that the city will immediately begin a search for a new financial officer.
Pauline Pendarvis, the city's clerk and budget and finance director, has worked in the position for nearly 30 years.
She tendered her resignation in a letter dated May 29 to the mayor and board of city commissioners.
Pendarvis's last official day will be June 30, but she will, for all practical purposes, be out of the office June 11 because of accrued vacation time.
According to city manager Charlie Weston, the budget and finance director's job description will now be based on the county's job description for the same position.
In other business conducted at the meeting:
The board voted 5-0 to issue a permit for the thirtieth North Port St. Joe street dance on July 4.
After listening to a lengthy plea by county commission chair Nathan Peters, the city agreed to the permit if Peters and event organizers worked with Port St. Joe police chief David Barnes on parking and emergency vehicle access issues.
It was announced that under the city's new land development regulation, the city's Planning and Development Review Board (PDRB) now can handle any cases coming in front of the board without requiring a second hearing by the city commission.
The city commission will continue to review any refusals of requests by the PDRB.

| A 'second reading' is essential to offer an opportunity to hear all points of view and prevent a quick 'run through' of special interests at the expense of those affected. I'm surprised an outrage has not occurred or a challenge raised yet, perhaps this is 'breaking news'. That is perhaps a double entendre. |
