Oscar C. Hammond, Sr. Obituary
Oscar C. Hammond, Sr. passed away February 7, 2012, with his family by his side in Wewahitchka, Fl. He lost a short battle with cancer. He was born March 3, 1922 in Stockton, AL to the late Ralph and Kate Hammond.
OC served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946 in the Pacific in World War II. He was employed by St. Joe Paper Company for thirty three years as a shift engineer and retired in 1983. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to the oyster bar, and spending time with his family. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church and was a VFW lifetime member.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Kate Hammond; brother, Raymond Hammond; two sisters, Gertrude Holsenback and Myra Knowles; and his son, Eric Hammond.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; his two children, OC Hammond and Betty Rich and husband David; daughter-in-law, Elwanda Hammond; 10 grandchildren, Chris Herring, Kelley Batten, Natalie Franks, Michael Hammond, Eric Pitts, Pam Nunnery, David C. Rich, Amy Kirkus, Kim Rich, and Mitch Rich; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family received friends at the First Methodist Church, Wewahitchka, on February 11, from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. CST. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. CST at the First United Methodist Church in Wewahitchka with Rev. Joey Smith officiating.
Interment followed in Buckhorn Cemetery.
