NJROTC Leaders Trained
Four top Cadets from the Port St Joe NJROTC participated in an advanced leadership training program sponsored by NJROTC Area 7 in St Petersburg from 6 to 13 June. From the moment they arrived at Leadership Academy, along with 106 other cadets from all across Florida, Cadets Autumn Yoakum, Jacie Ball, Cristina Cordova and Jonna Ball were in for a lifetime of experiences crammed into one short week.
The Academy uses an OCS (Officer Candidate School) format, with initial transition evolutions getting the cadet's attention, and preparing them for the intensive week to come. Overall training included, close order drill, personnel and room inspections, team building, leadership lectures and practical application labs, physical training, etiquette training, survival swimming and sail training.
Successful completion of Leadership Academies earned each cadet the coveted Silver Cord. This symbol of leadership is worn with pride and represents a singular significant accomplishment. Congratulations to Cadets Yoakum, Ball, Cordova and Ball for their outstanding accomplishment.
The NJROTC is a citizen and leadership training program co-sponsored by the United States Navy and the Gulf County Board of Education. Enrollment is open to all Port St Joe High School students. For more information, contact LCDR Jarosz at 229-6177.
