Gulf County officials declared a local state of emergency effective at 10:30 a.m. ET Wednesday due to weather conditions.

Emergency manager Marshall Nelson said a hard freeze is predicted for the entire county, including the coast, overnight on Wednesday into Thursday morning
.
County offices, other than essential personnel, will be closed through Thursday. The Gulf County Health Department is following suit and Nelson said he has advised public school officials to school closings Thursday.

An official announcement from district officials will be made later today.

As temperatures drop icy conditions will be the rule due to moisture on the ground.
