For those keeping track of the upcoming Centennial Celebration activities, a kite flying contest had been added to the expansive list of events happening to celebrate the upcoming 100th birthday of Port St. Joe.

The kite event will take place on Sunday, June 30 at George Core Park.

The Centennial Celebration Committee, appointed by Mayor Mel Magidson in October, wanted to ensure that the events were full of family fun.

Food plates with hamburgers or hotdogs will be served for $5 and trophies will be awarded for age categories eight and under, nine to 14 and 15-and-up.

Prizes will be given away for highest flying kite, best homemade kite, best store bought kite and overall champion kite flyer.

Also on hand will be carnival games including a football toss, basketball booth, corn hole, a hula hoop area and a water misting station to stay cool.

The event is a joint fundraiser between the Gulf County Soccer Boosters, Port St. Joe Youth Soccer and Port St. Joe Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).
