Something familiar and something new will be on display this weekend in the vicinity of Port St. Joe City Hall.
At City Commons Park adjacent to City Hall, the Salt-Air Farmer’s Market returns for a fourth year.
The market kicks off at 9 a.m. ET and will run until 1 p.m.
The new season will have a special treat in a cooking demonstration by Mary Ann Conroy of Gourmet Chef Now.
Conroy’s website is www.gourmetchefnow.com. Her demonstration begins at 10 a.m.
The band Thirty-Three will take to the gazebo at 11 a.m. to provide live music. Thirty-three is a local band of young musicians who performed during the Christmas edition of the Farmer’s Market.
“If you missed their performance at the last market then you missed out on hearing a very talented group who can really rock,” said John Parker, volunteer coordinator for the Salt-Air Farmer’s Market.
The Barnharts, B & H Farms and Tim Corker, farmers who have long made the Salt-Air Market a place for fresh produce, will be back as will Uford Madden, “The Goat Man”, who will be bringing fresh organic lamb, goat and chicken along with goat milk and ice cream.
Parker said many other local arts and crafts vendors will also be on hand.
Saturday will also be a cause for celebration as the Port Cottages, constructed directly across U.S. Highway 98 from City Hall, will have its official open house.
The Open House begins at 9 a.m. ET and the official ribbon cutting with the Gulf County Chamber of Commerce will take place at approximately 12 noon.
There will be live music, food and refreshments.
Created through collaboration between David Warriner and the Port Inn and partners Bill Kennedy and Steve Wich, the Port Cottages are the first new development in the city in several years.
Kennedy designed the cottages and partnered with Wich to construct them as a reflection of shotgun shack-style vacation housing Kennedy had seen and studied at spots such as Steinhatchee and Alabama.
“They came out pretty close to what I had envisioned in my brain,” Kennedy said.
The cottages – the first rented this past weekend and four of the six are booked for this weekend – will be marketed and rented as part of the Port Inn.
“For roughly the price for two people, you can sleep six and have all the comforts of home,” Wich said.

The cottages, roughly 625 square feet, have flat screen televisions in every well-appointed room, a full kitchen with granite countertops and stainless steel refrigerator, dishwasher and stove, blender, microwave oven and full array of cooking pots and pans and eating utensils.
Each room displays a sunset picture and the windows and doors are built to keep out the noise – during a visit last week highway traffic could barely be heard.
