Independence Day is upon us and the night sky will lit up Thursday with the glittering explosions of area firework displays. It’s an annual event that everyone looks forward to, so here’s where you can get your fix for the Fourth.
Port St. Joe
Midway through the city’s 100th birthday and Centennial Celebration on Thursday, July 4, Port St. Joe will launch its annual fireworks show over St. Joseph Bay. Grab a seat on the shore at dark for the $15,000 display. The Port St. Joe boat ramp will close early that day to accommodate the fireworks.
In the event of rain, the fireworks will take place on Friday, July 5 at dark.
The City of Wewahitchka will begin its annual fireworks display at dark. The celebratory display will be launched from T.L. James Park.
On Thursday, July 4, Mexico Beach will host the Best Blast on the Beach. The celebration begins with the annual Sandy Shoes 5K Fun Run, which starts at Under the Palms Park at 7 a.m. CT. Register in advance for the event at the Tourist Information Center. The race is limited to 325 runners. There will be no registration the day of the race.
A kid’s fishing tournament will also take place at Canal Park from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. CT. Free hot dogs, snacks and beverages will be provided for fishermen and their parents.
At 8:30 p.m. CT the fireworks will light up from the pier for this year’s annual display.
