On Tuesday, Feb. 12, soldier Terry Thompson returned home to Port St. Joe from active duty in Afghanistan.

Thompson was honored by the members of the John C. Gainous Post #10069 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars where he received a thank you letter from Rodney Herring, a certificate of honor, and a lifetime VFW membership from Commander of the Post, Rick Armstrong.

“I love what I do,” said Thompson as he smiled and shook hands with members prior to the ceremony.

Thompson, a specialist with the 781st Alpha Company, 117th Combat Support Sustaining Battalion No. 117, will relax at home for a few days before deploying to his next base in Alabama where he plans to attend college while simultaneously continuing to serve.

The John C. Gainous VFW Post 10069 is located in Highland View and invites all qualified combat veterans to visit the Post and apply for membership.

The Post is open every day and meets on the second Tuesday of every month.
