Make a New Year’s resolution to volunteer in the community

As 2013 dawns, make a resolution to volunteer to make the community a better place for all.

This column offers a rundown of volunteer opportunities to allow folks to invest in the community, including a few in time for the holidays.

Here are a number of opportunities:

* Christmas Dinner volunteer schedule - The gathering of volunteers is needed at 12 noon ET on Dec. 24. The volunteers will be assembling boxes, setting up the tables needed, packing desert cake for the meals and setting out signs, registration, information and supplies. All of the preparation and actual assembling of the Christmas dinners will be done at the Oak Grove Church located at 603 Madison St.  The many volunteers will reassemble on Christmas Day at 8:30 a.m. to start the assembly of the 700-plus meals. There will be a need for over 80 volunteer’s to make this project of love conducted by the caring, loving men women and children that will be helping.

* They are gearing up for the 2013 Great America Plein Air Paint-out. They need volunteers! Come join and learn more about participating in the 2013 activities.

The 2013 Plein Air Kickoff/Volunteer Appreciation Gathering will be 6:30 p.m. ET Monday, Jan. 14 at the Indian Pass Raw Bar. There will be oysters, shrimp and gumbo. Bring a friend.
