Odyssey of the Mind members are preparing for their next adventure and they need help.
After claiming a win at the state competition last month, Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School’s Odyssey of the Mind Team A is headed to the World Finals in Ames, I.A. You know…if they can get there.
To help raise funds to cover travel expenses for the six students and two coaches, both teams will host the “Night of O.M.” on Thursday, May 15.
During the event Team A, consisting of Sydnee O’Donnell, Rebecca Kerigan, Janel Kerigan, Jimmy Cummings, Cailyn LaPlante and Grant Whiten along with coach Courtney Cummings will give audiences a preview of the performance they’ve prepared for the world finals.
Team B, consisting of Katie Nobles, Dell Pickett, Celeste Creamer, Sara Hoffman, Steven Kerigan and Emma Doran along with coach Sharon Hoffman will also perform.
The World Finals will be held on May 28-31 at Iowa State University. Students involved in the group use their creative problem-solving abilities to answer questions in a method that utilizes technical knowledge and theatrics. They are then judged on their performance and knowledge abilities.
While Team A has prepared their answer in advance, they will also be subjected to a “spontaneous” question asked on the spot by the judges.
Students on the Odyssey team build their critical-thinking, problem-solving and teamwork skills.
The Night of O.M. will take place at 6:30 p.m. ET inside the Port St. Joe High School commons area. Admission will be a suggested donation of $5. Desert options will be available for an additional donation.
