Fill the Pantry for People Helping People

Star Staff Report

The High School High Tech students at Port St Joe High School found out that the pantry at People Helping People was almost empty from all the food they had distributed to the needy in Gulf County over the holidays.  The students began a Food Drive to Fill the Pantry.

Coastal Community Association of South Gulf County and St. Joseph Bay Golf Club joined in to help.  During the week of Jan. 15-21 food and cash donations were brought in from both groups.  St. Joseph Bay Golf Club had a Fill the Pantry Tournament which was individual play with handicap played anytime during the week. A lot of players participated.  Faye Chadbourne, one of our snowbirds from Maine, came in first with a 69.  She contributed her winnings back. Randy June of Port St. Joe came in second with a 70 and Beth Bauer of Port St Joe came in third with a 70 (tie breaker).

Hundreds of nonperishable food items and almost $1,200 in donations were turned over to the High School High Tech students to add to their food drive to give to People Helping People.  The food and cash donations will go a long way for People Helping People to provide food for Gulf County’s needy citizens.  Thanks to all the Coastal Community Association folks and all the golfers from St Joseph Bay Golf Club for their generous donations.

The High School High Tech Students will be going door to door in downtown Port St Joe next Saturday to collect more food.  It is nice to have our young citizens not only care about their community but to do something about it.
