Pickett Wins Essay Contest
The Franklin/Gulf Retired Educators’ Association is pleased to announce the winner of its annual essay contest.
Dell Pickett, a fifth-grade student in Mrs. Brenda Wood’s class at Port St. Joe Elementary School, has been selected as the recipient of a $50 savings bond. His essay about his grandmother was chosen to represent the local association at the next level.
Each year F/GREA in association with the FREA sponsors this contest for fifth-graders. The essay relates the student’s experiences with a grandparent or a grandparent figure. Students from Franklin and Gulf counties complete essays which are read by their teachers and then submitted to the F/GREA. Winners from Franklin and Gulf counties are rewarded with a gift card for either McDonald’s or Burger King. Those winners are: Allie Kirvin, Abigail Harris and Cash Creamer from Franklin County and Lauren Davis, Elizabeth Furstenberg and Pickett from Gulf County.
The F/GREA is happy to sponsor this activity and to recognize the academic achievements of students. We invite any retired educators in Franklin and Gulf counties to join us (F/GREA). We support community service activities, literacy programs, volunteer services and through the state association (FREA) offer access to insurance programs, travel services and an assortment of discounts, savings and rebates from many companies.
