Rotary Club Installs New Officers
Last night the Rotary Club of Port St. Joe held a dinner at St. James' Episcopal Church to install its officers for 2010/11.
The photo shows (right to left) Former District Governor Bill Crawford, outgoing President Russ Scholz, incoming President Lorinda Gingell, and incoming Vice President Fr. Tommy Dwyer.
Crawford conducted the installation of Gingell and Fr. Dwyer following a wonderful steak dinner. The Rotary Club of Port St. Joe holds one of the oldest continuous charters in the Eastern U.S. Regular weekly meetings are held on Thursdays at noon at the Sunset Coastal Grill.
Rotary is an International service organization of business people who are committed to "Service above self" in their communities and the world. Rotary has a long history of serving villages/towns/and cities across the globe and has been a major supporter of the effort to eradicate polio worldwide.
Polio is now limited to just three countries in Africa and the Far East.
Ms. Gingell and Fr. Dwyer look forward to the coming year with hope for the local club. This club historically supports the local Boy Scout Troop and was instrumental in building the Boy Scout Hut. The club also provides a yearly scholarship for graduates undertaking higher education. Mr. Crawford recently returned from a trip to Central America where specialized wheel chairs were provided for disabled children, providing them the opportunity to attend school.
