For the past few weeks we have had very informational programs. This past week we had Inell Stutzman who presented a program about property taxes. Mrs. Stutzman works for the Gulf County Tax Collector’s Office and has been employed there 35-plus years (I forgot the exact years, I just know it’s been a long time). She has seen many changes throughout the years of tenure. Mrs. Stutzman gave a recap of the tax collections for this year; this year’s collection was running behind just as it did last year. Last year’s collection about this time was around $29 million whereas thus far this year only a bit more than $20 million had been collected. Mrs. Stutzman described a new law that became effective on January 1, 2010, where it allows the taxpayer the ability to make partial payments on their property taxes. However, her personal recommendation is against it since it does not allow the tax payer to take advantage of the discounts available. She recommends the installment payments which preserve the discounts.
We would like to say THANK YOU Mrs. Stutzman for taking the time out of your busy schedule to come to our meeting and give us a program regarding a highly important subject; Property taxes.
The Kiwanis Club would like to thank the following Key Club Members for attending this week’s meeting; Autumn Yoakum, Ashleigh Lewis, and Jeremy Harcus.
