Man arrested on attempted murder in stabbing

THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

GARDEN GROVE – A man suspected of stabbing another man during an argument at a Santa Ana apartment was taken into custody Thursday afternoon after he was stopped in Garden Grove, police said.

Michael Redding, 29, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after police say he stabbed a man multiple times in the torso during an altercation at an apartment in the 2400 block of North Tustin Avenue, Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

Officers responded to the apartment about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of a stabbing. They found a man inside an apartment suffering from multiple stab wounds.

The man, who police have not identified, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. His condition has since stabilized, and he is expected to survive, Bertagna said,

A parolee apprehension team located Redding in Garden Grove on Thursday afternoon and took him into custody after a car stop near Garden Grove Boulevard and Brookhurst Street.

Investigators don't know what sparked the confrontation between Redding and the other man, Bertagna said.

Redding, who police believe is a gang member, was also wanted on a no-bail parole hold warrant, Bertagna added.

A man with the same name and birth date as Redding has a lengthy arrest history, Superior Court records show. The man pleaded guilty to felony car theft charges in 2002, 2005 and 2007, felony drug possession charges in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006, along with numerous other felonies and misdemeanors.

Investigators were expected to bring Redding to Santa Ana to be booked into jail.
