The Christian Conscience
Many today would have you to believe that all there is, to becoming a Christian is getting saved. For some reason, my Bible, and no Bible that I am familiar with, says that.
Jesus said, " He who endures to the end will be saved. " This is recorded in Matthew 10:22, Matthew 24:13, and Mark 13:13. Of the approximately 30 scriptures, which talk about being saved, nearly all speak about being saved in the future, not in the present. And, you will not find any place in the Bible where an individual says that he/she is saved, or was saved, as is commonplace in church circles today.
Consider 1 Corinthians 1:18 " For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."
Also 1 Corinthians 15:2 " ...by which also you are saved, if you hold fa st that word which I preached to you-unless you believed in vain. "
Yes, there are some who believe in vain. They think they are saved, but they have not yet been saved. How can you tell? Read 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. Do these things describe what you were, or what you are? If they describe what you are, you need to repent and surrender control of your life to the Lord before it is too late.
And 2 Corinthians 2:15 " For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. "
Philippians 2:12 says, "Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; "
Other scriptures make it plain that we are not be saved, by our good works. But if we are born again, and on the way to being saved, we will do good works. James makes this point very clearly in the book of James.
If you are saved, and all set for life, why does the scripture say, "Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves..."
( 2 Corinthians 13:5 ) And why did our Lord say in this teaching, " Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!' But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.' " ( Matthew 25:11 ) These had confessed Him as Lord, yet He said, " I do not know you. " Please, don't be like those virgins. Examine yourself while there is still time!
If we are to be saved, when will we be saved? That is the subject of next week's message!
Our services are at 9:30 Sunday AM central at the Mexico Beach Civic Center.
