A new corrections course will be starting on Jan. 4, 2013 at the Gulf/Franklin campus of Gulf Coast State College in Port St. Joe.  This course is designed to prepare students for the State Officer Certification Exam which will make them eligible for employment at any state, county or privately-run correctional facility in Florida.  The course will be conducted using the new shorter curriculum and will last approximately three months.  This will be a day class and will run from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. ET daily, Monday through Thursday and a half day on Friday.

Also, plans are underway to begin a night class in the near future.  Although the night class will take longer (approximately seven months) it will allow students who have day jobs to continue to work while attending class.  The night class will run from 5:30-9:30 p.m. ET Monday through Thursday.  This will be the first night class offered in Port St. Joe in many years and is designed to meet the needs of all who wish to begin a new career in corrections.

For more information please call Brenda Burkett at 227-9670, ext. 5507 and let her know which class you might be interested in attending.  The application deadline for the Pell Grant is fast approaching so please call today.
