Third grade students from Wewahitchka Elementary School recently explored the tidal flats of St. Joseph Bay at the T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsular State Park. Thanks to the efforts of Rangers Kathy Dawson and Joe Mitchell, the students were able to observe common animals from the tidal marsh in touch tanks. Rangers Kathy and Joe shared their knowledge of the flora and fauna with 50 students. This year the weather was perfect and the students were able to wade in the bay and pick up and observe bivalves, gastropods, and crabs. The favorite animal by far was the hermit crab. Our field trip could not be possible without the support of Mr. Mark Knapke, the park manager. Thank you to Mr. Knapke, Ranger Kathy, and Ranger Joe.
