The Tapper Foundation sponsors Junior Service League Child Service Center Trip

Donating $5,000 to the Junior Service League, the Tapper Foundation is the signature sponsor of the Junior Service League’s annual Child Service Center Trip.  This fall event provides a set of winter clothes to fifty local elementary students.  Thanks to the Tapper Foundation and the Junior Service League of Port St. Joe, each child receives two pairs of long pants, two shirts, a jacket, a pair of shoes and packages of underwear and socks.

In a new fundraising campaign, the Junior Service League is accepting sponsorships of its numerous community projects.  Sponsors will be unveiled as part of the annual Mardi Gras Gala, held on Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. ET at the Centennial Building.  In addition to the recognition at Gala, each sponsor will have its name attached to the project for 2010.  The Tapper Foundation is the first local group to take advantage of the campaign.

The Junior Service League is a non-profit organization of women whose goal is to help local children.  To that end, the League is seeking sponsors for the following Junior Service League projects: JamPacks, Junior Miss, Middle School Mentoring, Spring Child Service Center Trip, Essay Scholarship Contest, and Teachers’ Provisions Project.

JamPacks provides Gulf County students with all of their required school supplies, packed into a brand new backpack.  Junior Miss is a nationally recognized scholarship program for graduating senior girls with a 3.0 or better GPA.  Young women compete in five categories to win not only the chance to represent Gulf County in the state program, but also more than $6,000 in scholarships.  Middle school is a complicated time in a girl’s life, and the Junior Service League strives to make that transition to high school one of smart decisions.  The Middle School Mentoring program pairs a Junior Service League member with a seventh or eighth grade student for the school year, providing each girl with an accomplished woman to share experiences.  The Spring Child Service Center Trip is a new project designed to provide elementary students with spring school clothes.  The Essay Scholarship Contest awards two $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors, one from Port St Joe High School and one from Wewahitchka High School.  Finally, the Teachers’ Provisions Project provides Gulf County teachers with money to purchase needed school supplies for their classrooms.
