As spring approaches, our minds start to turn to warmer weather, the smell of fresh cut grass, the crack of a bat, umpires yelling their calls and the old familiar taste of Cracker Jacks. To get ready for all the excitement baseball brings to our community, Port St. Joe Dixie Youth Baseball is busy planning for a great 2014 season.
Recreational baseball offers children a chance to enjoy a classic game, meet new friends and get great exercise. But more than this, the game provides a chance for our children to learn about teamwork, leadership, respect and how to overcome adversity. We also feel that by learning new skills, children will develop a greater sense of confidence and self-worth.
Port St. Joe Dixie Youth Baseball is a completely volunteer organization. Every dollar we receive is devoted to providing the best possible experience for the children in a safe, fun environment. The volunteers of this group dedicate time and energy to youth baseball for that simple reason.
Three registration dates are scheduled for the 2014 season in an effort to give all who want to participate the opportunity to sign up. The first registration session will take place from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, Feb. 8. The second registration session will be during the week from 5-7 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at the STAC House on 8th Street. On Saturday, Feb. 15 the final registration opportunity will be held at the Washington Gym on Kenny Street from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. ET. The cost to register is $65.
We are also seeking coaches, umpires and volunteers. If you feel you could support the children of our community with your time, please come to registration and meet our group to discuss all of the various opportunities for involvement. Any and all participation will be greatly appreciated.
