This past week the Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School volleyball team improved its play, said Coach Wayne Taylor, but the week ended with the Lady Tiger Sharks winning just one of three matches.
On Sept. 10, the team traveled to Freeport to play a varsity-only match. The team lost in three games, 7-25, 14-25, and 18-25, in what Taylor called one of the most disappointing nights this season, with passing errors continuing to plague the team.
The following night, Port St. Joe hosted Blountstown. Although Taylor said the play was better, Port St. Joe lost in three straight, 17-25, 16-25 and 11-25, with passing errors again the main problems.
With a break in the schedule on Wednesday, the team had a good practice and were ready to travel to West Gadsden for a varsity only match on Thursday, Taylor said.
The Lady Tiger Sharks won the district tilt in three games, 25-8, 25-12 and 25-13.
Freshmen Callie Fleshren had 11 service aces and Sophomore Haley Wood had six kills off of 12 attacks.
Fleshren continues to lead the team with a 97 percent serving percentage and assists with 38. Junior Nicole Endres leads the team in attacks with 30 kills on 102 attempts.
The team would also like to remind the community of its Dig Pink event to support breast cancer research and awareness. This match will be held on Thursday, Oct. 18. All proceeds from the gate will go to the Side-Out Foundation. Thank you for your support of this important cause.
