The weather was perfect for the annual LGA Autumn Action Golf Tournament at St Joseph Bay Golf Club during a recent Sunday. The players had a great time, good weather, a fun game, won prizes and ate “low country shrimp boil” which included Cole slaw and key lime pie served up by Gourmet Chef Now! The Hole in One was sponsored by Bill Creamer Chevrolet but unfortunately, although, a lot a players got “close”, no one went home with the new, red Chevrolet Cruze.
Men, women and teens played for cash prizes. There was a three-way tie for first with a score of 61, and the final winners were determined by elimination. First place was a mixed team with two club members and two from Tyndall AFB-Debbie Ashbrook, Andrew Rowell, Herman Bell, and Tina Lacourse. Second was a St Joe Team-Penelope Evanoff, Tom Adams, Hershel Neel, and Wayne Rish. Third also was a St Joe Team-Stacey Kervin, Larry Wilson, Marvin Shinfessil, and Dick Davis. Prizes were given for Closest to the Line and Closest to the Pen for men and women. Nola Tolbert from the St James Bay Club was the Putting Champion.
A team of teens from Port St Joseph High School was sponsored by Dr. Anne Brown and Dr. Fred Thomason of Tennessee. The four players were Sammy Bucciori, Morgan Kennington, Witt Shoaf, and Javarri Beachum. Sammy won first place Winner and is quite a golfer since he took first last year as well. Closest to the Line winner was Morgan Kennington and Closest to the Hole was Witt Schoaf.
All the proceeds from the tournament go to fund the programs of two local charities. The High School High Tech program at St Joseph Bay High School will use its funding to provide summer internships for job training for students in the High School High Tech Program. The proceeds will fund approximately half of the students’ stipend. The Gulf County Domestic Violence Task Force will use its funding for educating youth against domestic violence and to assist those in domestic violence situations in Gulf County.
The Autumn Action was a huge success because of the players and because of all the generous sponsors in Gulf County. Thanks to our businesses and citizens who made this tournament a major golf tournament success. Gulf County youth will benefit greatly from their generosity this year.
