With the regular season winding down and playoffs approaching, the Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School soccer teams each won last week against visiting North Bay Haven.
The Lady Tiger Sharks won 1-0 and are now 6-3-1. The boys earned a 5-3 win to up their record to 8-1-1.
For the girls, an unassisted second-half goal by junior forward Cat Robles, in the 50th minute, provided the margin of victory. Junior goalkeeper, Christian Laine earned the shutout in goal, her fourth of the year as she lowered her Goals Against Average to 0.92. She made four saves on eight North Bay Haven shots.
The Lady Tiger Sharks had 12 shots on goal.
Team and area high-scorer sophomore Marcel Duarte tallied his third hat trick of the year, as he tied his own school single-season goal scoring record at 19 goals. Eighth-grader Jacob Lacour opened the scoring with his second goal of the year, unassisted, in the 10th minute. Duarte scored the next three and Drew Lacour (fifth of the year) finished the scoring on a penalty kick.
Lacour also had an assist, his team-leading eighth.
The Tiger Sharks were led in goal once again by senior Tucker Smith, who played 60 minutes, getting the win. He gave way to Javarri Beachum for the final 20 minutes. Smith had three saves on six North Bay Haven shots and surrendered two goals. Beachum gave up one goal and had two saves on four shots against.
The teams are off until after the New Year when they end regular season District 1-1A play at Baker on Jan 8.
