Rich named softball all-American

Former Wewahitchka High School star softball player Samantha Rich recently completed her first year as a junior transfer at Southeastern University in Lakeland.

Playing for Coach Anna Welch, Rich was named the team’s Most Valuable Player, was first-team All-Sun Conference and was named a first team All-American by the National Christian College Association.

Rich was also named second team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

In her first year at Southeastern, Rich led the team with a .450 batting average, 21 doubles, 68 hits and 105 total bases.

She also hit four home runs and stole 15 bases.

In the pitching circle, she won 15 of 21 starts and ranked second in the Sun Conference in wins.

She helped lead Southeastern, fielding a softball team for the first time in school history, to a 26-19 record overall, 9-7 in conference play, good for third place.
