Whether complacency with district tournament seeding ensured or road woes that have plagued them all season, the Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School boys’ basketball team finished the regular season with a pair of losses away from home.

The Tiger Sharks, who had won seven of eight entering the week, finished the regular season 12-11 overall, 7-5 in District 2-1A. Port St. Joe is seeded second behind West Gadsden for next week’s district tournament at South Walton High School.

Port St. Joe will face Franklin County on Tuesday in the opening round at a time to be announced.

The Tiger Sharks played district foe Bozeman last Friday and with their seeding clinched, Coach Derek Kurnitsky said his team played a bit flat.

“I don’t know whether it was because we had the seeding locked up and Bozeman needed it, or we just had a bad shooting night,” Kurnitsky said of the 48-34 loss. “We have also not played well away from home and we need to do better on the road.”

The Bucks jumped on top early and led 25-21 at halftime and steadily built the margin over the course of the second half as Port St. Joe managed double digits in only one quarter, the third.

Cory Calloway led the Tiger Sharks with 19 points. Chad Quinn added eight, Marcel Johnson 5 and Marquez Johnson two.
