Literacy Week at Port St. Joe Elementary School

Star Staff Report

This week is dedicated to reading across the state of Florida.  Of course, we want our students reading every week, but this week is the one that focuses on reading in particular. The theme this year at Port St. Joe Elementary School is “Take the Lead and Read”.

In that vein, there is an opportunity for our community to “take the lead” and donate books to their local schools for as little as $10. This is a tax deductible contribution and a wonderful way to enrich the lives of our students. The website for contributions is http://data.fldoe.org/register/JustReadFlorida/.

Research has shown that students who read a minimum of 20 minutes a day are more successful academically and less likely to drop out of school. Please “take the lead”, contribute books to our students and help them be successful.
