Wewa Elementary hosts Operation Mail Call

By John Huft, Special to The Star

Teachers and students from Wewahitchka Elementary School have been sending Christmas cheer to our military personnel deployed overseas from Wewahitchka.

The operation started when Lisa Stripling’s first grade class and John Huft’s third grade class sent friendly letters to her son’s basic training platoon.

Stripling and I wondered if we could send care packages to our troops overseas.  With the help of Wewahitchka Elementary principal Lori Price and members of the faculty, the idea blossomed like a poinsettia.

Students brought in toiletries and snacks and teachers helped to pack them up and ship the care packages.  Each class made Christmas cards to be included with the care packages.

Participating classes include Jennifer Barnes, Mist Harper, Chrystal Geary, Kim Ludlam, Doris Jean Whitten, Brandi Sims and Erica Green.
