*On Saturday, Jan. 28, the Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School Student Government hosted a District 1 meeting. We had over 250 people in attendance from Pensacola to Tallahassee. At this event the delegates went to a workshop type event called “Swap Shops”, and then, they witnessed the Gulf County Sheriff’s Department perform a Mock Wreck to raise awareness of texting and drinking while driving. The guest speaker was state Sen. Bill Montford. It was a huge success. Mrs. Joni White was chosen as Student Government Advisor of the year. We received nothing but compliments all day. We would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!
*Congratulations to our very own Wanda Nixon on being named “School Support Person” of the Year for the entire county. Way to go Mrs. Wanda!
*Port St. Joe NJROTC will be holding their Annual Inspection and Review on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 9 a.m. All are invited to this impressive event. The Reviewing Officer this year will be CDR Michael Egan, the United States Navy, the Commanding Officer of the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center at the Naval Support Activity Panama City. Please come and help celebrate our 35th year of Commissioning. Come see these impressive young men and women in action.
*Feb. 23 – Black History Program at 9 a.m. ET. Guest Speaker – Stephen Osborne; the public is invited. Stephen is a graduate of Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School, Class of 1978. He was born in Apalachicola on Sept. 11, 1960. Stephen is the son of the late Charles A. Osborne and Ometa Hurd Osborne of Port St. Joe. After graduation, Stephen attended Florida A&M University as well as entered into the U.S. Army. During his tenure in the US Army (20 years), he served in numerous leadership capacities in the U.S., as well as various other countries, including Germany, Korea, France, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Botswana and Somalia, Africa. Stephen also enrolled in the Soldiers Opportunity College (SOCAD), accumulating the credits required to complete his degree, attending the University of Maryland throughout his military career. Upon retirement from the U.S. Army in September 1999, Stephen was employed as a contractor for the Systems/Network Engineer within the Department of Defense and State Department in Washington, D.C. He was also assigned to the Pentagon during the attacks of 9-11. After numerous years working in the Washington, D.C. area, Stephen created his own IT consulting firm, providing employees for government contracts, as well as employees with Headquarters, Bank of America and Duke Energy in Charlotte, NC where he presently resides. Stephen is married to Derial Rhodes (Fennell) Osborne of 28 years and has 2 sons, Stephen “Atrial” Osborne (Sophomore NC A&T “Law”) and Isaiah Charles Osborne (JM Alexander Middle School).
*Cap and gown photographs will be taken on Wednesday, Feb. 15. There will be a $15 sitting fee for these photographs. If you desire for your student to take cap and gown photographs, please have them contact Coach Taylor in Room 718 to sign up for a sitting time. Photographs will be taken at school only on Feb. 15.

Congratulations to PSJ Cheerleaders Emerald Muniz, Lacey Strickland, Jackie Collinsworth, Jeni McLemore, Kristina Furtsenberg, Jada Quaranta, Kayla Caldwell, Kaley Wilder, Alex Scott, Sydney Owens, Jena Julian, Dantasia Welch, and Kennedy Thacker (7th grade flyer) for placing fifth overall in the FHSAA competition! The cheerleaders also placed third in the semi-finals out of 27 teams. Way to go girls. You make us proud.
Congratulations Megan Walker for signing with Mississippi State with a scholarship in pole vaulting. Good Job Megan!
