Bishop Rosa Lee Garland Obituary

Bishop Rosa Lee Garland passed away with her family by her side at Covenant Hospice in Panama City, Florida on April 5, 2015 at 2: 15 a.m.

Bishop Garland was born in Greenwood Florida (Jackson County) on June 23, 1939 to the late Boswell and Refair Bryant.

Bishop Garland moved to Port St. Joe, FL (Kenny's Mill) at the age of one and was a lifelong resident of North Port St. Joe, where she attended and graduated from George Washington Elementary and High School. In 1960, she married her high school sweetheart, Howard Garland, Jr. and from this union was born five sons.

Bishop Garland accepted Christ into her life at the age of 16 under the strong guidance of Elder Robert B. Thompson of the First Born Church of the Living God. She continued on personally serving faithfully in the anointing capacities of District Missionary, a Bishop and Pastor in her own ministry until her health started to decline which forced her to limit and eventually relinquish all active duties.

Bishop Garland was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She loved spending time with, and doing as much as possible, for her family and church, glorifying and praising God often with a gifted talented singing voice that is still the talk of the community.

Bishop Garland leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Howard Garland Jr.; five sons: Mitchal (Marjorie) Garland of Killeen TX, Bonnie Anthony (Carolyn) Garland of Tallahassee, FL, Donnell (Tammi) Garland of Tallahassee, FL, Gregory Van (Cardrella) Garland of Panama City, FL, Drexel Thane (Shabral) Garland of San Angelo, TX; two brothers: Waymon Bryant of Port St. Joe, FL, John Bryant (Noy) of Panama City, FL; three sisters-in-laws: Patricia (Charles) Leslie of Miami, FL, Annette (Carlos) Torres of Harrisburg, P A, Debra Garland of Phoenix, AZ; three brothers-in-laws: Clyde (May) Garland of Orlando, FL, Kenny (Penny) Garland of Detroit, MI, Darin Garland of Port St. Joe, FL; one niece, Gloria Jean Bryant; two nephews: Waymon M. Bryant (Angela) of New Orleans, LA, John M. Bryant of Ft. Braggs, NC; a special granddaughter: Lacheryl Michelle (Bobby) Fields; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins; two very special friends Annette Ford of Tallahassee, FL, Roslyn Wilkerson of Panama City, FL; three god-children, Carolyn Bailey of Port St. Joe, FL, Tamela Walker of Tallahassee, FL and Michael Beard of Gainesville, FL.

Her funeral service was held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Body of Christ Church with interment following in Forest Hill Cemetery.
