Kathy Childs Little, age 59, of Mexico Beach, Florida died July 25, 2014 at her beach home. She is survived by her husband of 11 years Lanny “Ray “ Little, one daughter Leslie Hall (Brent) of Marianna, FL; Peggy Thomas of Panama City, FL-Aunt; Philip ( Betsy) Childs of Folkston-Brother, GA; and Michael (Janine) Childs of Atlanta, GA-Nephew. Kathy was known as “Katkee” to her two grandchildren Madison Hall of Marianna, FL and Brody Little of Wewahitchka, FL and. She also had two great-nephews Bobby and Jackson Childs of Atlanta, GA.
She is preceded in death by her father Robert “Bobby” Childs, mother Leslie “Jenny” Childs of Marianna, FL and step-son Jared Little of Port St. Joe, FL.
Kathy was born in Marianna, Florida on March 19, 1955 but lived in Grand Ridge, FL and Graceville, FL until her family moved to Marianna where she grew up. She graduated from Marianna High School in 1973, she then went to Judson College in Marion, AL where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a Minor in Art. Kathy then went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Education from Troy University. Later on in her career as a teacher she decided to go back to school where she attended Florida State University where she received her Specialist Degree in Administration & Educational Leadership. Kathy started her teaching career in Baker Hill, AL, then moved to Pensacola, FL for a few years until she moved back to Marianna, FL. She was a teacher at Cottondale Elementary & then went to F.M. Golson Elementary where she taught for the remainder of her career, while there she taught Computer Lab, Art & many different grades.
Every chance Kathy had during her lifetime she loved being at the beach. Kathy also had a love for Art and could draw or paint anything. She will greatly be missed by her family and all her friends. Her celebration of life service will be held Sunday August 3, 2014 at 10 a.m. CST on Mexico Beach, FL. Family and friends will meet at the 6th Street Beach Access walk-down to celebrate her life.
