On Jan. 26 at VFW Post 10069, the officers and members of American Legion Post 116 honored the passing of its First-Vice Commander, James L. Emerson, who passed away suddenly during the holidays.

Jim was remembered as a person who contributed greatly to the veterans’ community and especially to his beloved Covenant House.

Legion Commander Doug Calendine stated that this ritual was a first for him as Commander. Songs were sung by two beautiful ladies, one in the Norwegian language. Friends praised Jim for his devotion to this fellow man, friends and employees.

As the playing of “Taps” began over 150 people in attendance stood ramrod straight and saluted with pride. Tears began to fall from the eyes of those especially close to Jim.

After the ceremony, food, drinks and fellowship followed in the VFW Hall with stories of Jim and his wonderful contributions to the community.
