Norman Jackson, Sr. passed away December 16, 2013. He was born on November 16, 1931 to Henry and Mary Clifford Jackson of Kathleen, Florida. His mother died when he was 5 years old and his dad moved the family to Brushy Hammock. In Mayo he met and married Opal Hamlin and they lived in Mayo until 2005 when they moved to Wewahitchka, Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Opal and five children, Abigail Taunton (David) of Wewahitchka, Florida, Marilyn Robinson (Bruce) and Miriam Martzolf (Brian) both of Orange Beach, Alabama, Norman (Andy) Jackson Jr. (Kanda) of Mayo, Florida and Martha Tidwell (Phillip) of Trussville, Alabama. He is also survived by sisters, Maudine (Robert) Glisson of Live Oak, Florida and Mary Alice Driggers of Old Town, Florida. He is also survived by a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, lots of nieces, nephews and other family members as well as a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Nora Jackson.
Norman was a life-long residence of Lafayette County where he was a long time farmer. He served as a County Commissioner for 20 years. He loved to fish (especially in the Suwannee River) and was an avid hunter.
Funeral services were held at Alton Church of God in Mayo where he was a long-time member. Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 18 at the church. The funeral was 11 a.m. Thursday, December 19 with family visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment followed in Alton Cemetery. Pastor Tim Hamm and Rev. Robert Cary officiated.
His grandsons served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Koon, Herman Shaw, Lamar "Cooter" McCray, Franklin Wimberley, M.A. Perry, Calvin Blue, and Edward Henderson.
