          Robert L. Montgomery, Sr.  74, of Port St. Joe, FL, passed away March 14, 2013, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, in Bay County, FL, surrounded by members of his loving family, after an extended illness.  Mr. Montgomery was a true Southern Gentleman; a faithful, loving husband to his wife, a wonderful Daddy to his children and an awesome Paw-Paw to his grandchildren.  He was proud to head up such a large group of extended family, and will be remembered for his big smile and warm and loving heart!

          He will be missed by his devoted wife, Helen “Cookie” Richards Montgomery; their children: three sons:  Bobby Montgomery, Jr.  (wife, Ricci), Larry Gilley, Tim Montgomery (wife, Donna);  two  daughters: Terri Boardway (husband, Ed), and Stephanie Gann  (husband, Tracey);  sister, Ann Williams, brother, Eddie Montgomery (Sue Scott);  two Brothers-In-Law: Billy Joe Richards (wife, Laura); Ward Richards (wife, Louise);  grandchildren,  Sarah, Josh, and Jesse Montgomery,  Dustin and Dalton Gilley, Bowin Montgomery, Michael Golson (wife, Corali), Summer Golson, Amber Wagner, Michaela (Sammii) Boardway, Jesse Gann (Brittany),  Mary Hagan (Chris);  six Great-Grandchildren: Mariah and Bella Golson,  Michael,  Lacey and Emma Grace Hagan, Caleb Gann;  one Aunt, Ioma K. Seay,  numerous nieces,  nephews,  cousins and his many, many  friends. 

Robert was born and raised in Port St. Joe, a home-town which was very dear to his heart.  He was the first-born son of George, (Buck) and Sarah Frances, (Fannie) Montgomery who preceded him in death.   

          After graduating from Port St. Joe High School, Class of 1957, he was employed at the A & P Grocery Store, Glidden Company and then retired from St. Joe Paper Company after 36 years.

Mr. Montgomery was President of the local Jaycees several times, a State Director of the Jaycees and JC1 Senator # 20118.  He was the winner of the Outstanding Jaycee and Keyman several times, named in WHO’S WHO of the United States International Jaycees and Outstanding Personalities of the South.

Robert was a long time member of the Highland View Baptist Church.  He was the Choir Director, Sunday School Superintendent and served as a member of the Maintenance Committee for many years, until his health prevented regular attendance. 

           Flowers will be accepted or Donations may be made to the Highland View Baptist Church.
