The America’s Great Plein Air Paint-Out organizers have set the schedule for this year’s Artist Workshops.  There will be two workshops this year; one at the Apalachicola Center for History, Culture and Art on May 5-6, the other at the Port St. Joe wetroom on Reid Avenue on May 12-13.

Each workshop is $200.

The workshop in Apalachicola is presented by Tracey Frugoli, who hails from Chicago and has been painting since 1998.  She has exhibited throughout the country and has appeared in American Artist and Plein Air.  Frugoli freelances for workshops and is the Illinois/Midwest Editor for Fine Art Connoisseur

In her words, “For me, painting is a humbling endeavor that reflects and enhances the most noble of our ideas. Light, beauty and paint combine to stir my soul."
Frugoli will host "Simplify Your Way to Better Paintings": Learn to distill the essence of a scene and paint with more impact. Through demonstration and hands-on exercises, you will gain an understanding of how a painter sees and edits a subject to create paintings that grab attention. All skill levels are welcomed.

The instructor will be working in oils, but all mediums are welcome.

The second workshop is presented by Greg LaRock who is traveling from Newport Beach, CA to participate in the Plein Air Paint-Out. LaRock’s passion is to capture the outdoor landscape and its ever-changing light and beauty.  The challenge of depicting the three-dimensional world onto canvas is a difficult pursuit, but when it all comes together, it is an extremely rewarding experience.

“When the gap between believability and painterly expression is merged, I’ve done my job,” he said.
