Ragland bombarded Coosa Christian with big plays Friday night as the Purple Devils ripped the Conquerors 67-25 in Class 1A, Region 4 football at Phillip Ellen Stadium.
It was the Purple Devils’ first victory after three losses and evened their region record at 1-1. Coosa dropped to 2-2 and also has split its two league games.
Ragland broke out to a 26-0 lead after one quarter, was up 45-13 at halftime and led 53-19 after three periods.
The Purple Devils finished with 658 yards of offense, 545 of it on the ground, to Coosa’s 286 yards, all but 46 of those passing.
Adam Sanders finished with 204 yards rushing on 12 carries and had touchdown runs of 49 and 45 yards to lead Ragland, which had nine offensive plays of 30 yards or longer, and also returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown.
Ragland quarterback Noah Hollingsworth completed his first three passes for touchdowns — all to Micah Phillips, covering 4, 29 and 60 yards — and also ran for two scores. He finished with 80 yards rushing on 9 carries and completed 3 of 5 passes for 93 yards. Backup running back LaDarious Spikes ran 10 times for 97 yards and scored twice.
Quarterback Caiden Lipscomb and receiver Evan Delp were the Coosa offense, linking up for four touchdown passes of 29, 58, 69 and 30 yards.
