GLENCOE — It took an extra inning, but Glencoe took down Wellborn 5-4 on Monday.

Lucas Fletcher had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 8th, knocking in Bryan Benefield.

Payton Hicks allowed two hits and struck out three in three innings of work as the winning pitcher.  Romello Williams started the game for the Yellow Jackets, striking out eight, walking four and givine up three hits in five innings pitched.

Williams had an RBI at the plate, while Fletcher had an RBI and a run scored.

Noah Huff had an RBI for Glencoe, and Benefield scored three times.  Alec Pointer also had a hit and a run scored.

Glencoe hosts West End today.

 

Etowah varsity, junior varsity defeat Piedmont

The Blue Devils earned a 9-3 win over Piedmont on Monday afternoon.

Etowah (5-2) had 12 hits in the game and several players had a big day at the plate.

Jarren Wright had a pair of RBIs, while Bryson Bone went 3-3 with a double and an RBI.

David Rutledge and Zack Jones also knocked in runs, and Dylan Robinson was 3-3 at the plate with a double. Dalton Robinson also recorded a hit.

A.J. Taylor was the winning pitcher.

The junior varsity came away with a 4-3 win in the late game.

Cody Hicks had the game-winning two-RBI double for the Blue Devils.

Caleb Burns and John Washburn pitched well for Etowah with Burns striking out seven and Washburn fanning three.

Hunter Cox had three hits, while Hunter Simmons scored three times and Will Noles scored twice.

Etowah will play at 4:30 p.m. today at Cherokee County.

 

Gadsden City splits weekend doubleheader, moves Tuesday game

The Gadsden City Titans lost an early game Saturday against Albertville but bounced back with a later win against Cherokee County.

Hudson James struck out six and allowed four hits in just over five innings of work in the Titans' 8-3 morning loss to Albertville.

Austin Correll had a pair of singles while Austin Brewer had a double and a single.

Gadsden City returned home later Saturday and defeated Cherokee County 10-0 behind a complete game on the mound from Baylor Partridge.

Partridge had seven strikeouts and only allowed two hits and one walk.

Cooper Hill and Josh Kelley each had two RBIs, while James had a pair of hits.

Ryan Sparks, Brewer and J.J. Gray all contributed doubles.

A scheduled home game today will now be played away at Fort Payne starting at 4:30 p.m.

 

PREPS SOFTBALL

Gaston defeats Gaylesville 7-6

Haley Morgan went seven innings, striking out 10 and giving up 7 hits in the Bulldogs' win over Gaylesville.

Alex Moon went 1-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Alyssa Gargus went 1-3 with one run scored and Haley Morgan went 1-4 with one run scored.

Becca Stone, Allison Cohen, and Molly Frost also scored one run each.

 

PREPS SOCCER

Westbrook tops Sacred Heart 4-2

Westbrook Christian traveled to Sacred Heart and won 4-2 on Monday.

Makenna Beard scored a goal and had one assist. Also scoring for the Warriors were Alyia Al-Homoud, Mary Reid Goodwin and Kylee Berndt.

Westbrook hosts Sylacauga at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Glencoe rolls over Collinsville

The Glencoe Yellow Jackets (2-2) defeated Collinsville 4-1 on Monday.

Kaylee Knight led the way with two goals, while Katie Smith and Kinleigh Hamrick also scored.

Sara Griffith, Meisi Diggs, Kaylee Knight and Jacey Cochran each recorded assists.

 

Collinsville boys defeat Donoho

The Collinsville Panthers (5-1, 1-0) defeated the Donoho Falcons 6-0 over the weekend in boys high school varsity soccer area play.

Isaiah Avila scored three goals. Juan Barrientos, Leo Barrientos, and Pedro Sierra all scored one goal each.

Bryan Barrientos had two assists and Jason Perez had one.

Alvaro Sanchez and Luis Reyes preserved the shutout in goal.
