The Etowah Blue Devils earned a win in the Etowah Invitational softball tournament over the weekend. The results were as follows:

 

Etowah 3, Ragland 0 

Sydney Simpson got the win in the circle for the Blue Devils (11-8), throwing all six innings and striking out nine.

Bree Vasser, Melissa Love, Shy Gibbs, Jessica Smith, and Alexus Phillips all had hits, while Abbi Martin contributed an RBI.

Martin, Gibbs, Vasser, and Phillips each had a stolen base.

 

Etowah 8, Ashville 5

Kacie Byrd started the game for the Blue Devils, and Sydney Simpson came in for an inning of relief pitching.

Martin had two hits and an RBI, while Vasser went 3-3 with a single, double, and homerun for a total of four RBIs.

Gibbs and Phillips each had hits.

 

Etowah 3, Cherokee Co. 2

Etowah bested No. 5 Cherokee Co. to round up pool play.

Simpson got the win in the circle, throwing all six innings, allowing four hits and striking out five.

Melissa Love and Phillips had two hits and an RBI each.  Hally Bennett had two hits, and Martin, Smith and Krislyn West also had hits.

 

Etowah 2, Ashville 1

Kacie Byrd got the start and win for the Blue Devils in the championship game. Byrd allowed only five hits and struck out one.

Simpson got the save and struck out three. 

Gibbs led the team with two hits and two RBIs. Martin, Bennett, Vasser, Phillips and West each had a hit. 

Bennett also had two stolen bases, while Martin and Anna Kate Watkins also had steals.

 

The Blue Devils will play at home against Gaston on Monday and will start area play Tuesday on the road at Alexandria.
