The Southside Lady Panthers (10-5, 1-0) finished a weekend of games in Calera with a 4-2 record. 

Southside opened the weekend Friday by beating Class 5A, No. 10 Shelby County 4-1, but the Panthers then dropped a close one 4-2 in the last inning against Class 3A, No. 3 American Christian Academy.

On Saturday, the Lady Panthers opened strong by beating Homewood 13-0, Briarwood Christian 10-0 and Oak Grove 4-2.

Southside went into extra innings in the semifinals game but came up short 5-4 against Calera. 

Rylee Gattis led the Panthers in the circle, going 3-1 with an ERA of 0.89. Kathryn Morris, Alexis Rennhack, and Keelen Vice saw action as well.

The Panthers totaled 39 hits throughout the weekend at the plate.

Gattis led the way with seven hits, and Lauren Hunt finished with six. Emilee Coker and Sydney Yancey finished with five hits each.

Kaylee Brown, Austyn Patterson, Chloe Gattis, and Lynnsey Hunt all had multiple hits. Carly Lankford, Julia Hurley, and Karlee Thompson chipped in a hit as well.

On the base paths, Coker and Hunt totaled 17 stolen bases — Coker with 10 and Hunt with seven.

Southside welcomes Oxford to Southside on Tuesday.

Collinsville picks up weekend win

The Collinsville Panthers traveled to the Baylor, Tennessee Invitational Tournament over the weekend and went toe-to-toe with the competition.

On Friday, Collinsville Panthers defeated Hamilton High School 7-2.

Isaiah Avila scored five goals. Jason Perez and Pedro Sierra scored one goal each.

Sierra, Alvaro Sanchez, Jason Perez, and Bryan Barrientos all had one assist each.

On Saturday, Collinsville tied with Chattanooga Christian School 2-2.

Barrientos and Avila scored one goal each. 

Later Saturday, Collinsville tied Hardin Valley Academy 3-3.

Avilla, Sierra and Barrientos all scored one goal each. Perez had two assists.

No. 4 Collinsville is now 10-1-2 overall and 3-0 in area play.

The Panthers will play Faith Christian and Sacred Heart this week.
