West End defeated Gaston 18-7 in high school baseball.

Matthew Hood was the winning pitcher in relief, allowing no hits and striking out two batters in 2 1/3 innings.

Zach Rubio went four-for-four with two RBIs and two runs scored. Deven Tinsley, Jacob Jones, Levi Armstrong and Caleb Arledge each had two hits, and Jacob Chamblee, Brady Simmons and Jacob Crosby had one each.

West End (5-6) visits Glencoe Tuesday.

 

Westbrook Christian splits Monday games

Westbrook earned a split in Monday's game in the Gulf Coast Classic.

The Warriors defeated Brantley 13-0 in five innings in the opening game.

Jordan Reynolds threw a complete game shutout with only one hit allowed and nine strikeouts.

Brett Vice had four hits, including a double and three RBI, while John Ross Morgan had three hits, including a three-RBI triple, and Court Coley had two hits and two RBI.

Cullen Stafford, Andrew Dutton, Braden Beecham, and Addison Ponder all had a hit and an RBI, and Samuel Dutton contributed a hit.

Westbrook fell to Madison County 4-1 in the second game.

Samuel Dutton was the losing pitcher despite only allowing four hits and having nine strikeouts.

Cullen Stafford had two hits, one of which was a double.

Greysen Robinson had a hit, and Samuel Dutton had the Warriors’ only RBI.

The Warriors (13-4) will play McAdory at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

 

Spring Garden wins tournament

Spring Garden's Jr. High baseball team won the Cherokee County Tournament on Saturday.

They defeated Gaylesville 10-2, Sand Rock 9-1, and Cedar Bluff 13-2 in the championship game.

Spring Garden's current record is 20-0.
