Port St. Joe Girls Go Unscathed for Week

With the typical mix of speed and defense the Port St. Joe High School Lady Tiger Sharks was perfect last week and remains untouched in District 2-2A.

The Lady Tiger Sharks, now 15-2 overall and 8-0 in the district, swept three games, two on the road, last week.

The week started with a Tuesday night home rematch with Lynn Haven Mosley and for the second time this season Port St. Joe came from behind to beat the larger school.

Down by two points after three quarters, the Lady Tiger Sharks out-scored Mosley 19-9 over the final eight minutes for a 49-41 victory.

Mariah Johnson led the way with a game-high 26 points. Fanequa Larry added nine, Kayla Parker six, Alyssa Parker four and Naomi Warren and Nicole Spilde had two apiece.

On Thursday, Port St. Joe traveled to West Gadsden and didn’t need to score in the final period to fashion an easy 50-23 victory.

The Lady Tiger Sharks went up 19-9 after one period and 29-10 after two and cruised from there, passing the ball around and not pressing the offense over the final eight minutes.

Kayla Parker had a team-high 17 points with Johnson adding 16. Alyssa Parker had seven points, Larry six and Tiara Smith and Warren added two points apiece.

The night was much the same on Saturday at Franklin County as Port St. Joe jumped to a 19-0 lead after the first eight minutes, led 27-14 at half and 40-16 after three quarters before settling on a 44-25 victory.

Johnson led the way for Port St. Joe with a game-high 18 points. Kayla Parker had 12, Alyssa Parker five, Naomi Warren four, Tiara Smith three and Nicole Spilde two.

Port St. Joe travels to Wakulla on Thursday and hosts East Gadsden at 4:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.

The district tournament, at Liberty County High School, begins Tuesday with Port St. Joe the top seed.
