Middle School Finishes Spring Football
Three days of spring practice ended in a bit of fun last Thursday as the Port St. Joe Middle School football team split up for some tag-football games pitting "shirts" and "skins."
"We had a good three days," said Coach Tracy Browning. "We run it more like a camp than a practice."
The turnout this year was strong, some 50 student/athletes, the highest Browning has had in the past four years.
Sandy Quinn, Bobby Alexander, Mike Dunn and Albert Scheffer are Browning's assistant coaches.
The three days primarily revolve on the basics, Browning said, proper stance, how to block, how to tackle.
"We are basically getting them excited in football," Browning said.
The team will come back together for two days of informal practice in July and fall practice begins Aug. 17.
The team will play a regular season schedule of a jamboree followed by seven games.
Port St. Joe is in a conference that includes Franklin County, Wewahitchka, Liberty County and Blountstown.
The jamboree is scheduled for Sept. 3 and will also include Grand Ridge and Marianna and be played at Blountstown.
