Port St. Joe Soccer Teams Step Forward

With a win and a tie, the Port St. Joe boys’ soccer team maintained a winning record in the district while the girls traveled on the road for two difficult contests as the season hits the homestretch.

The teams both played at Franklin County in district games on Monday, but results were not available at press time.

Last Tuesday, both teams traveled to Bozeman in Bay County, the boys coming away with a 2-1 victory while the girls could not muster much offense and fell 1-0.

The boys were home on Friday and whitewashed West Gadsden 5-0 in a cold, misty rain. The game was played primarily in the West Gadsden end with Chase Watford, Daniel May and J. Mason Ray pressing the attack.

On Saturday, the teams traveled to Tallahassee and matchups with their counterparts at Florida High. The girls managed a tie, with the goal coming from Christina Cordova.

The boys fell 2-1 to drop their overall record to 4-5-1, but with a District 2-2A mark of 3-1-0.

The girls are 1-6-1 and 0-3-0.

For the girls, Cordova leads all scorers with three goals and one assist for seven points. Rachael Jones has a pair of goals and one assist for five points, Torie Burgess has a goal and one assist for three points and Stefani Furstenberg and Marianna Schwabacher each have an assist.

For the boys, Ray leads scorers with 10 goals and two assists. Jarred Arnold has five goals and two assists, Watford has two goals and three assists, Witt Shoaf has a goal and an assist, May has a goal and an assist, Reis Nelson a goal and Sadik Padilla an assist.
