Port St. Joe girls win State Track Meet; Wewahitchka Beats Port St. Joe in Regional softball
Kayla Parker won the 100 and 200 meter sprints, the 100 meter hurdles and the long jump in leading the Port St. Joe High School girls track team to the Class 2A state track title. Samone Smiley was third in the shot put and seventh in the discus, Fanequa Larry was third in the triple jump and fifth in the 200 behind Parker, and the 4x400 relay team finished second as the Lady Tiger Sharks upended the defending state champion Melbourne Holy Trinity. In softball action, Samantha Rich pitched a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts and hit a key home run as the Lady Gators downed Port St. Joe 3-1 in a Region 1-2A semifinal. Hilary Chapman was 3 for 3 with a run-scored and Rich was 2 for 2 with two RBIs for the Lady Gators, who advance to their sixth-straight regional final on Tuesday against either Cottondale or Sneads.
