Lady Sharks open regular season tonight

Host Blountstown at 7 p.m. ET

The Port St. Joe High School softball team will open its varsity softball season at 7 p.m. ET tonight when the Blountstown Lady Tigers come to town.

Seniors for this year’s team are Katie Gardner catcher/pitcher, Kaley Wilder at second base and shortstop Katie Lacour. Last year’s team reached the regional semifinals before being eliminated.

Also, the Lady Sharks have juniors Devon Young in the outfield, infielder Miranda Gref and MaKayla Ramsey at pitcher. Sophomores are Brittany King at first base, left-fielder Christian Laine, Kelsey Miles playing centerfield and catcher and Lexie McGhee in right field.

The varsity roster is rounded out with freshmen Shannon Pridgeon at third base and Hayley Wood, a middle infielder. This year’s softball program has 27 players on both varsity and junior varsity teams.

The junior varsity is 3-0 on the season, but as Blountstown does not field a junior varsity team there will be no junior varsity game tonight.

The next games for both varsity and junior varsity are at Bozeman on Tuesday, Wewahitchka at home next Thursday, and South Walton at home next Friday.

Coach Jim Belin said, “The teams are young and exciting to watch. Come out and enjoy a game.”
