Florence (Radford) Cassani was suddenly called home to heaven on Navy wings on Monday, April 8, 2013. She was born on November 1, 1933 in Pensacola, FL. She was the beloved daughter of the late John and Martha Radford. Florence was born and raised in Pensacola until, in 1952, a dashing young Navy pilot swept her off her feet and they married. Florence then travelled across the country as her handsome husband rose in the ranks. She discovered hidden strength when she was often left alone with seven children while her husband was serving overseas. During the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, he left for work and did not return for weeks, being unable to tell her where he went. Florence retired with her husband to Port St. Joe, FL in 1976, returning to Pensacola in 1995.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Captain Henry “Hank” L. Cassani, she was his treasured wife for 57 years; brothers, Robert and Ray Radford and sister, Evelyn Ferguson.
Florence Cassani was the cherished mother to seven children, Henry “Rick” L. Cassani, Jr. of Chesapeake, VA, Sharon Cassani Clarke and her husband, Ron, of Carver, MA, Susan Cassani Andrews and her husband, David, of Hanson, MA, Richard Cassani of Pensacola, FL, Cynthia Cassani Phillips and her husband, Randall, of Port St. Joe, FL, Michael Cassani and his wife, Lisa, of Lakeville, MA, and Capt. John D. Cassani (USN) and his wife, Vicky, of Coronado, CA. She was the beloved Nonna to 17 grandchildren whom she adored, Jason, Mandy, Mike, Dan, Jeff, Craig, Jessi, Bill, Bobby, Lindsay, Chris, Evan, Nathan, Cameron, Kyle, Connor, and Kaden. She was also blessed with two great-granddaughters, Rylee and Zooey. Florence was the beloved sister to her brothers, John and Roy Radford, and sisters, Myrtis Williams and Alta Clark, all of Pensacola. She also leaves her beloved sister-in-law, Jeanne Lewis of Marco Island, FL. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Peter McLaughlin at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel, 19 North Palafox Street, Pensacola, FL, followed by interment with her late husband at Barrancas National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in her honor be made to Covenant Hospice-Homeless Veterans Program, 5041 North 12th Avenue, Pensacola, FL, 32504.
