This morning's storms brought a deluge of rain and for citizens of Wewahitchka, a little something extra.

At 9:04 a.m. CT, a tornado touched down in Wewahitchka near Old Transfer Road. It moved north to Bozeman Circle, past Red Bull Island Drive and toward Cox Landing. The twister ultimately proceeded Northeast.

City Manager Donald Minchew said several homes were suffered minor damage from fallen tree limbs but no severe damage was reported. City workers cleared the affected roads of debris and are working toward restoring power to affected parts of East River Road.

"There were a dozen homes with damages," said Minchew. "Maybe more."

Initially, Minchew said he had heard reporters of injuries, but none were confirmed. One woman was stuck inside her home when debris blocked the door, but other than some stress, she suffered no bodily harm.

"I haven't had any physical injuries called into my office to be confirmed," said Minchew.

The County Assessment Team will inspect the areas and figure out the monetary value of the damage.
