On Monday, Feb. 17, Deputy K. Starnes received a complaint at the Wewahitchka Substation regarding a burglary. The offense occurred in the 300 block of West Lakeview Drive in Wewahitchka between April and December of 2013. Approximately $2,260 of construction tools were taken, including a welder and torch cutting equipment. The Gulf County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) continues to investigate.
On Feb. 17, Lt. Tim Wood served Timothy R. Stein (43) with a warrant for Burglary. The warrant was sought by the Port St. Joe Police Department. Stein was served at the Gulf County Detention Facility where he was already in custody.
On Feb. 17, Deputy K. Starnes conducted a traffic stop on State Road 22 and County Road 22A in Wewahitchka. The driver of the vehicle, Dustin H. Pratt (21), failed to maintain his lane and was driving a vehicle with a cracked windshield. After making contact with Pratt, Deputy Starnes obtained consent to search the vehicle. Probable cause was developed and Pratt was arrested for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Pratt was transported to the Gulf County Detention Facility.
On Wednesday, February 19th, the GCSO received a 911 call regarding a domestic disturbance in the area of U.S. Highway 98 and Westview Blvd in St. Joe Beach. Upon completing the investigation Deputy J. Brock charged Cory A. Staten (23) with Felony Domestic Battery and Tampering with Victim. Staten who had fled the scene was later arrested on Feb. 22.
On Thursday, Feb. 20, Investigator G. Skipper arrested Michael A. Emanuel (39) and Candice L. Hall (35) in the 100 block of Griffin Road in Stone Mill Creek. Both Hall and Emanuel were arrested on a warrant for Trafficking in Hydrocodone and transported to the Gulf County Detention Facility.
On February 20th, at 10:16 PM Deputy S. Ferrell was on patrol in the area of Georgia Avenue and Sea Haven Drive in St. Joe Beach when he observed a vehicle parked in the roadway with the lights off. Once Deputy Ferrell approached the vehicle, its lights came on and began to drive off. Deputy Ferrell stopped the vehicle to investigate the suspicious activity. During the stop it was determined the driver, Samantha L. Smith (27), was driving on a suspended license. She was arrested and transported to the Gulf County Detention Facility.
On Friday, Feb. 21, the GCSO responded to a 911 call from the 100 block of Venus Drive in Port St. Joe regarding a domestic disturbance. Deputy S. Ferrell investigated the call. Sherry A. Robinson (46) was arrested and charged with Domestic Battery and Abuse of a Disabled Adult. She was transported to the Gulf County Detention Facility.
On Feb. 21, Deputy C. Bailey took a report of stolen patio furniture from the 8900 block of US Highway 98 on St. Joe Beach. The property, valued at approximately $800, was stolen sometime between Jan. 2-Feb. 21.
On Feb. 21, Sgt. J. Williams observed a traffic violation and conducted a traffic stop on West River Road near State Road 22 in Wewahitchka. The driver of the vehicle Eric A. Sims (26) exited the vehicle and began to walk away. He was detained pending the investigation. Upon a check of Sims’ license it was determined to be suspended. Sims was placed under arrest for Driving While License Suspended or Revoked and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was transported to the Gulf County Detention Facility.
On Feb. 21, Lt. Tim Wood stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Lake Grove Road near Byrd Parker Drive in Wewahitchka. Dexter A. Terry (21), an occupant in the vehicle, was found to be in possession of less than twenty grams of marijuana after a joint was observed in plain view by Deputy B. Smith. Terry was arrested and charged for Possession of Less than Twenty Grams of Marijuana and transported to the Gulf County Detention Facility.
On Saturday, Feb. 22, the GCSO received a call regarding suspicious activity at the end of Palmetto Drive in Overstreet. Deputy K. Starnes arrived to investigate and made contact with Laura L. Macks (35). Deputy Starnes noticed the odor of marijuana coming from Macks’ person and when asked she stated she smoked marijuana earlier. Consent was obtained to search Macks’ purse and it was determined she was in possession of marijuana. Macks was arrested and charged with Less Than Twenty Grams of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She was transported to the Gulf County Detention Facility.
On Sunday, Feb. 23, at 3:08 a.m. Sgt. J. Williams stopped a vehicle on US Highway 98 and Industrial Road in Port St. Joe for a traffic violation. When contact was made with the occupants Sgt. Williams noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Sgt. Williams searched the vehicle and discovered seven small bags of marijuana packaged for sale. Also discovered during the investigation was drug paraphernalia and a hand gun with an altered serial number. Elias G. Barela (19) of Panama City was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Concealed Weapon, and Possession of a Firearm with an Altered Serial Number.
From Feb. 17-23the Communications Division at the GCSO logged a total of 43 calls for the Port St. Joe Police Department, 42 calls for EMS, 18 calls for other departments/agencies and 16 calls for Animal Control.
